About
Kanana
A hidden jewel on the Xudum River, Kanana is nestled in the southwest of the Okavango Delta, offering an unparalleled safari experience. The area is a vibrant tapestry of islands adorned with palms, figs, ebony, and knobthorn, supporting a rich diversity of birds, plants, and animals. Completely rebuilt and refurbished in 2025, this five-star awarded camp provides private concession access for both land and seasonal water activities, ensuring an intimate and exclusive wildlife encounter. The camp is also EcoTourism Certified and 100% solar-powered, reflecting a commitment to sustainable luxury. Guests can enjoy the best of both worlds with magnificent game sightings during drives and the unique opportunity to explore the Delta’s beautiful waterways by boat or Mokoro when flood levels allow. The annual floods transform parts of this concession into a true water paradise, offering a breathtaking spectacle as the water visibly rises around the camp’s raised teak decks. Kanana is an excellent area for birding with regular sightings of the Pel’s Fishing Owl, and is home to one of Southern Africa’s largest heronries. Guests are accommodated in seven spacious twin and double-bedded safari tents, each with a luxurious en-suite bathroom. Families are catered for in a two-bedroomed tent with separate en-suite bathrooms, making it a child-friendly destination. The tents are strategically spaced for privacy while remaining conveniently close to the main camp area. For an unforgettable night under the stars, the Sleep Out Deck offers a unique wilderness experience. The camp is open year-round, ensuring that guests can always discover the magic of Kanana. The focus of activities at Kanana varies with the rising and falling water levels of the Okavango Delta. Activities include morning and afternoon game drives in open safari vehicles, with afternoon drives often extending into the evening, offering spotlight sightings. Guests are guaranteed a window seat and individual use of a camera mount for optimal viewing comfort. When flood levels permit, guests can explore the crystal-clear waterways by Mokoro or motorboat, discovering the magnificent variety of birds, plant, and reptile species. Birding is exceptional, with Kanana hosting a seasonal heronry that is one of the largest in Southern Africa. Guided bush walks are highly recommended, as is fishing for tilapia, African pike, and sharp-tooth catfish. Kanana’s private concession allows for guided walks, Mokoro excursions, and night drives in addition to game drives and motor boating. Wildlife is abundant, with frequent predator sightings, including lion, leopard, and wild dog. Fishing is available when floodwaters prevail, with the exception of January and February. The camp also offers Wi-Fi with limited access.
